Concert Review: Zac Brown Band
We got in the car for a beautifully scenic route to Saratoga NY. It would be about two hours till we arrived at our destination. There is something about the way music lovers get when they are about to go to attend a concert of a band that they have been dying to see. I equate it to love to be honest. The heart racing, that stupid smile on your face and the ability to look and listen to something for two hours straight with out closing your eyes.
This concert was extra special because it would be the second time seeing this band at the same venue, and the last concert I went to of theirs is probably in my top 5.
We pulled into the driveway of the house that we were crashing at for the night and since the owners were not home yet, we took advantage of the fact that the house was set back far enough with enough land that we could change into our concert attire outside. Makeup was haphazardly applied by the car mirrors and everyone finished by saying "well, this is as good as it's going to get".
We quickly got back into the car so that we could go tailgate with the best of them at the venue. When we arrived, we of course got parked near all of the oldies. I don't mean the cool oldies, who totally would shot gun a beer and give you free drinks, I mean the ones that drank out of plastic cups and were eerily quiet while sipping on their wine. Nonetheless we tried to not let this ruin our evening. So, naturally like twenty something girls we crushed beers blared music and made the best of it. And of course not forgetting to try and take a decent photo..emphasis on try.
It was about 7:30 and we were heading toward the gates to go listen to Zac Brown Band play all of the songs that we had just been listening to through the car speakers, but with this band, you can never get enough.
We worked our way down through the maze of people who had decided they were going to put up chairs that would most definitely get pushed over by all the people running through trying to get a better look at the stage. (sorry to that one lady who we totally knocked over her beer) We had used the gross portapotties and had gotten our drinks and finally found the perfect spot. We were ready to be engulfed by the music.
The music started up and the crowd went wild. They played most of the songs off the Jekyll and Hyde soundtrack, as well as Uncaged. Everyone sang along at the top of their lungs and knew every word.
There is something transcendent about an outdoor concert, you almost feel like you are the only one in the audience, and its amazing to think that you are probably not the only one who feels that way. The other thing about it though, is that you are surrounded by these people that are feeling the music the same way you are, and its kind of just one giant community all vibing with the artist. The singers most definitely vibed with the audience saying to them,"We love our fans, and we couldn't have done any of this without you".
Leaving that concert left me feeling like I was on a high. Nothing means more than being with good people with good drinks and excellent music. I plan to go back to that concert every year that they have at that same place because I think I just created my very own tradition, and I couldn't be more happy about it. If you ever see that Zac Brown Band is playing in your area, definitely get some cheap lawn seats, some great friends and have an incredible night, I promise you will not regret it.
